Expressions of Interest sought – experienced racers to assist with Kick Start Junior Rider Training.

The Club’s volunteer coaches would like to hear from experienced racers to assist them with coaching new Junior riders on the Kick Start Junior Rider Training Courses.

This would be on an occasional basis to enable us to rotate as many experienced assistants as possible through the program.

The Club runs about 1 x 2 day Kick Start course per month from Feb to Nov each year and trains @100 new Junior riders. Generally, each Coach has at least one permanent assistant (generally their kid/s) but we would like to open this opportunity up to 1 or 2 extra assistants per coach per school.

The assistants, experienced Junior’s and Senior’s, perform the following tasks under the Coach’s guidance:

· Set an example to the students by acting and riding in a polite and responsible manner;

· Assist the families to settle in to our Club and the sport;
· Walk the tracks with the students and parents and explain obstacles, terrain, vision, traction and line selection;

· Demonstrate the purpose, selection, purchase and correct use of protective gear (helmets, gloves, boots, body armour);

· Demonstrate the purpose, selection, purchase and correct use of the motorcycle (fit for the purpose);

· Demonstrate the correct set up and use of controls and body positioning on their bikes;

· Demonstrate basic maintenance and scrutineering of the motorcycle (brakes, clutch, levers, cables, handlebars, fuel, filters, oils, spokes, wheel & frame bearings, tyre pressure, chain adjustment, eligibility of bike & rider (age, engine capacity, wheel size) correct numbers etc);

· Demonstrate various bike control skills (picking up and starting their fallen bikes, clutch & throttle control drills, braking, cornering, jumping, undulating terrain, discipline specific skills, and jumping;
· Escort them on their bikes to/from/around the tracks (Dirt Track, MX Track and Enduro Trail);

· Assist fallen riders;

· Teach discipline specific skills that you excel at (DT, MX, Trials, Enduro);

· Provide 1 on 1 advice for students and their parents with tips to improve their skills;

· Mentor new riders and their families through their early race and rec ride days;

· An option to attend the annual MNSW Level 0/1 Coaches Courses, or similar commercial Level 1 Coaches Course to ensure we have a future supply of suitable qualified Coaches in the Club.

This is a very fulfilling pastime that allows you to put something worthwhile back into the sport you love.

The more we do, the more we learn, the more we train, the more we will achieve as a Club in this sport.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, please contact any of the Coaches listed in the Contacts page and arrange to assist them on the next date that they have a vacancy for you.

“If you are here, you might as well be doing something worthwhile.”
